The importance of treating your lawn with the right product
So many products exist today that can be applied to your lawn to aide its growth, but so many also exist that can inhibit its growth if applied incorrectly.
Often enough, I' will hear a story of a lawn treated with the wrong product and the effects have significantly damaged the lawn, taking weeks to recover and often inviting weeds to take over.
Simply applying the wrong chemical at the wrong time or to the wrong lawn type can damage or completely kill your lawn and the recovery process can take weeks or months and cost time, money and satisfaction.
so what should you do to make apply the right product?
Obviously, the first thing I’d recommend if you can afford it, is engage the services of a professional in the field. They will more often than not be able to diagnose any issues with your lawn and treat appropriately where required. They should also have access to the right products to promote growth and enhance your lawn and garden.
If you’d rather DIY, the second thing I’d recommend is be sure that you know your lawn type (or types if you have a blended lawn) and make sure whatever product you purchase to use is safe to use on your lawn type. Simple products like a generic weed and feed for example can be specifically formulated for certain lawn types. Often it is buffalo varieties that require their own variety and this is regularly overlooked. Application of the wrong weed and feed to a buffalo lawn can result in it being completely destroyed.
Stimulants and soil treatments. You might wonder why you need to treat the dirt the grass grows in?
Well, simply put, the growing of your grass can ‘use up’ the nutrients in the soil. A healthy lawn often requires these nutrients to be added every so often to replace want has been lost or ‘used up’. Simple seaweed solutions can add vital nutrients when applied regularly but additional steps should be taken to ensure your lawn is well taken care of.
In a follow up post, I’ll touch on simple things that can be purchased from Hammerbarn that can make a huge difference when applied to your lawn.
