Palm frond trimming.
Its never a bad time to consider removing excess palm fronds to tidy the up. I trimmed these palms to the crowns Just under 12 months ago and already the fronds back in numbers, over crowding one another and really blocking out the sunlight to other parts of the yard.
These Fan palms are too close to one another and that really affects how crowded they look. I imagine at the time of planting they were much smaller and how close they might be to one another years down the track wasnt to much of a consideration.
Now the fronds heavily intersect with one another causing some to grow unusually and also causing them to get caught up in one another when pruned. Some are almost at the point of touching one another at the trunk base.
A general recommendation made was that consideration should be made to knocking out every second palm to promote healthier crown growth and to hang on to some of the smaller ones to prevent the palms getting to tall and difficult to maintain.
